Huawei Makes a Strong Comeback with the Mate 80 Pro
Huawei unveiled its new high-end model on March 25, 2026, in Ébène. This device will be available for purchase starting early April.
This comeback has not gone unnoticed in the Mauritian high-end smartphone market. On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Huawei's facilities in Ébène, the brand officially announced the reintroduction of its Mate series. This strategic revival comes at a time when competition has intensified in this segment, where positions are now determined by both innovation and perceptions of durability and performance.
At the center of this revival is the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro. This model is positioned in the premium segment, highlighting three main aspects: robustness, performance, and the integration of smart functions.
From the first glance, the device displays a bold orientation. Available in black, gold, and green (the latter reserved for the Huawei Experience Store), the Mate 80 Pro features a sleek design with a flat screen aimed at enhancing ergonomics and stability of use. This design choice diverges from the current market trends dominated by curved screens.
Regarding durability, Huawei emphasizes a reinforced architecture. The smartphone is built on a metallic frame and a set of materials claimed to be more resilient. The front features second-generation Kunlun glass, which is said to offer drop resistance up to twenty times greater than that of standard glasses. The back is finished in a so-called "vegan" fiber, adding to the structure's appeal.
The model is also certified IP68 and IP69, indicating resistance to water, dust, high-pressure projections, and high temperatures. These features are highlighted in a climatic context like Mauritius, characterized by humidity and heat.
The battery boasts a capacity of 5750 mAh. The manufacturer also announces rapid charging capabilities of 100 W wired and 80 W wireless, allowing for accelerated recharging—a particularly emphasized feature for intensive use.
The positioning of the Mate 80 Pro seems aimed at both professional and personal use. The device presents itself as a versatile model designed for prolonged use throughout the day without major interruptions.
Photography also plays a central role in the device's features. The True-to-Color Camera system is designed to reproduce colors with enhanced fidelity. The main 50 MP sensor comes with improved light management, enabling shots in varied conditions. In low light, the manufacturer highlights an enhancement in detail levels, while in backlighting, image processing aims to preserve key elements without crushing contrasts.
The camera module also includes a 48 MP macro telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom, alongside a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle lens intended for landscapes and group photos. This setup places the device in the category of versatile smartphones for photography. Additionally, several artificial intelligence-based features are included, such as removing unwanted elements from images, adjusting expressions in group portraits, and providing real-time framing suggestions.
The smartphone also integrates a SuperCool dual phase-change cooling system, designed to maintain consistent performance during extended use, particularly for gaming or HD video streaming.
The HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro will be available in Mauritius starting April 3, priced at Rs 53,999. A launch offer includes the provision of FreeBuds SE4 until May 3.
With the return of the Mate series, Huawei is reestablishing its position in the premium segment, in a local market marked by increasing competition. In Ébène, the brand thus showcases its ambition to regain ground in this segment.
