Bread Prices: Bakers Keep Up the Pressure

Bakery owners are maintaining the pressure. Bakers are requesting that the price of homemade bread increase from Rs 2.60 to Rs 4.78, without any subsidy. According to our sources, the government has proposed Rs 3.50.

If their demands are not met, Mauritians could be deprived of bread as early as this Monday.

The president of the association, Nasser Moraby, emphasizes that no meetings have taken place with the authorities in the past three weeks. He specifies that two proposals have been submitted as part of their demands.
