   Easter is the most significant celebration in the Christian life. It commemorates the resurrection of Christ, the central event upon which the entire faith rests. As Saint Paul reminds us, if Christ has not been raised, our faith is in vain. For believers, Easter signifies the transition from death to life, from darkness to light. It is this moment that gives meaning to the Christian message.

2. What does Good Friday actually commemorate?
   In the collective imagination, Good Friday is often seen as a day of sadness. However, the reality is deeper. We celebrate Jesus’ death on the cross, but above all, his love. This day reminds us that Christ gives his life for others. It is not just a day of mourning but an act of love and total self-giving.

3. Why does the date of Easter change each year?
   The date of Easter often intrigues people. Unlike Christmas, it is not fixed; it depends on a precise calculation. Easter is celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon after March 21, a date that corresponds to the spring equinox. For example, in 2026, the full moon falls on April 2, placing Easter on April 5. This method of calculation dates back to the early centuries of Christianity.

4. What do silence and the return of the bells signify?
   This silence marks the entrance of Christ into his passion and death. During these days, the Church experiences a time of reflection. Then, on Sunday morning, the bells ring again, announcing the resurrection. In Mauritian popular tradition, it is often said: "Bann laklos inn al Rom." It is a figurative way to say that they return to announce good news. The sound of the bells then becomes a symbol of victory of life.

   The word "Easter" means "passing". It evokes the passage from death to life. This same passage is found in baptism. We are immersed in the death and resurrection of Christ. Baptism symbolizes a new life, thereby directly linking it to the resurrection celebrated at Easter.

   Very popular in Mauritius, the egg hunt is often seen as a children's activity. However, it also carries symbolic significance. The egg represents emerging life and reminds us of the resurrection.
