Child Injured in Tamarin: Shark Attack Theory Considered Unlikely by the NCG
A 10-year-old boy was injured this Sunday, April 5, in the lagoon of Tamarin, near a hotel. The child was surfing with his father at the time of the incident.
He sustained a leg injury and was rushed to a private clinic. According to eyewitness accounts, the child was believed to have been attacked by a shark.
However, the National Coast Guard (NCG) currently dismisses this theory. An officer interviewed by TéléPlus stated that a shark attack is unlikely. The area was thoroughly inspected, and no sharks were sighted. According to him, it is possible that the child was injured by contact with a boat.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. As a precaution, the police are advising swimmers to stay close to the shore while awaiting the investigation's conclusions.
Concern is palpable in the area. Several individuals express fear of entering the water, while a fisherman opines that a shark attack cannot be entirely ruled out, even though no sharks have been observed.
