Cap Malheureux: A Suspected Thief of Giraumons Caught by His Phone Photo
A case of looting and theft of giraumons was reported in a vegetable field at Cap Malheureux over the weekend. The suspect was caught in the act by the owner while attempting to steal a dozen giraumons and fled, leaving his mobile phone behind.
Thanks to the contents of the device, which featured his photo as the wallpaper, the Grand Baie police were able to identify him. He is Jean Julien Descombes, a well-known repeat offender in the North, previously involved in several theft cases.
On Monday, a team from the Grand Baie police, led by Sergeant Chinien, spotted the suspect on the main road in Grand Baie. He was arrested by Constables Benidin, Muckoon, and Ramjutton.
The suspect will be interrogated by the Grand Baie CID, headed by Inspector Mootoo.
