BP 247: Air Mauritius and the Creole Language
Last week, I flew to and from Rodrigues with Air Mauritius. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would need to translate the announcements into Creole before take-off and landing. The pilot provided weather updates for both Rodrigues and Mauritius in English and French. My elderly grandmother, sitting beside me with her basket full of Rodriguan treats, couldn't understand a word. I did my best to translate into Creole so she could at least keep up with what was happening. It's unfortunate that not everyone can understand the announcements.
