Title: Fight Against Money Laundering: Keshwarsingh Nadan Caught Up in Bitcoin Case Estimated at Rs 80 Million

Content: Keshwarsingh Nadan, a 36-year-old software engineer from Flic-en-Flac, was arrested on Thursday, April 9, on suspicion of illegal bitcoin transactions amounting to Rs 80 million. He appeared before the court, and the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) is now investigating possible connections to international criminal networks.

The FCC reports that the suspect allegedly holds around Rs 80 million, spread across two bank accounts. After reviewing his online transactions from recent years, the FCC deems the origin of these funds questionable. More specifically, 1.46 million euros (approximately Rs 79.38 million) were identified in the form of cryptocurrencies.

After spending a night in custody, the engineer was granted bail on Friday. During his provisional charge for money laundering at the Port-Louis court, he had to provide three bail bonds of Rs 500,000 each, along with an acknowledgment of debt of Rs 3 million. He is now required to report daily to the local police station.

Illegal Trade

The investigation is focusing on a possible "illegal trade" of Bitcoins. During Thursday's operation, several electronic devices were seized. These pieces of evidence have been sent to the FCC's forensic lab, where experts hope to uncover crucial data, including transaction histories, access to digital wallets, or email correspondences.

A significant aspect of the investigation involves the international dimension of the case. Investigators suspect that the platforms used may be based abroad, facilitating the transfer of funds outside traditional banking channels.

Keshwarsingh Nadan is not unknown to law enforcement. In the past, he was involved in a fraud investigation led by the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID), which also concerned bitcoin transactions. At this point, the FCC is awaiting detailed explanations from the suspect to determine whether these assets are linked to larger criminal activities.
