Household Gas: 14,044 Metric Tons in Stock, No Shortage Expected, Says Sik Yuen

As of Monday, April 13, Mauritius has a stock of 14,044 metric tons of household gas, a level deemed comfortable according to the Minister of Commerce, Michael Sik Yuen. He states that this quantity is sufficient to meet national consumption for an estimated period of 51 days.

This announcement comes amidst ongoing concerns regarding energy supply. However, the minister is adamant: no shortages are anticipated in the coming months. "We have enough stock to meet the population's demand," he asserts. To maintain this stability, several shipments of household gas are already scheduled. Michael Sik Yuen mentions that a delivery is expected between April 19 and 21, with a volume of 5,000 metric tons. "This replenishment will bolster existing reserves and ensure continuity in distribution," he says.

The import schedule also includes additional arrivals in the following months. "Between May 27 and 29, a second ship is expected to dock with about 9,000 metric tons of gas. Another shipment of similar volume is anticipated between June 23 and 25," the Minister of Commerce indicates.

However, Michael Sik Yuen clarified that the volumes announced for May and June are provisional. They may be adjusted based on various parameters, particularly the evolution of local demand. "The figures may vary depending on the situation."

This flexible approach, he states, is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at ensuring continuous supply while avoiding surpluses or market tensions. The authorities, the minister continues, closely monitor consumption levels to adjust imports accordingly. Despite uncertainties regarding future volumes, Michael Sik Yuen emphasizes that the message remains clear: the situation is under control. "All measures are in place to prevent any supply disruption," he insists.
