Dawood Rawat Denounces Fraudulent Publications Using His Identity
Dawood Rawat, the former Chairman Emeritus of the BAI group, urges vigilance. He has expressed serious concern over false information circulating on social media under his name.
"These articles or interviews are completely false and misleading. I have no connection to any investment plan or financial offer that these publications may suggest," he stated in a press release.
Dawood Rawat expressed sadness at the malice of those who do not hesitate to use his image and name to sow confusion, generate malicious clicks, or worse, incite the public to make fraudulent investments.
"This deliberate misinformation is condemnable and also affects those who, in good faith, share this false information without verifying its authenticity," he added.
As we mentioned last week, false information is currently circulating on social media via Facebook pages. These pages share links leading to a supposed article published on defimedia.info titled: "Thousands of Mauritians Still Don't Know the Truth: The Interview on Radio Plus That the Government Wants to Erase from the Internet." Another article titled "Dawood Rawat Can No Longer Remain Silent" is also being circulated.
By clicking these links, internet users find a page that reproduces the Défi Media Group's logo in its header, misleading them into believing these are authentic publications from the media group.
However, this is fake news. The Défi Media Group has never published these articles on its digital platforms. The misuse of its name, logo, and visual identity constitutes an attempt at misinformation and undermines the credibility and professionalism of the group, which is committed to disseminating verified and reliable information.
The Défi Media Group reserves the right to take legal action against anyone or any entity using its visual identity to spread false information. The propagation of fake news is a crime punishable by law. Offenders face a sentence of up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 1 million if convicted by the courts.
