Mobile Phones in Schools: Implementation of Regulated Use Expected in Four to Five Weeks

In four to five weeks, the use of mobile phones in schools will be regulated. In a statement to the Défi Media Group this morning, the Minister of Education, Dr. Mahend Gungapersad, indicated that phones could be used in certain cases, particularly for educational purposes or in instances of illness.

He clarified that the consultation phase is complete. The proposal will soon be submitted to the Council of Ministers, followed by a communication exercise in the field with parents and students, among others.

This morning, the minister launched a workshop titled "Capacity Building Programme for School Superintendents" at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Réduit.

According to the minister, it is crucial to equip school leaders with the appropriate tools to tackle the numerous challenges in the education sector.
