Energy: Launch of the 'CEB Solar Photovoltaic Scheme' for Households
The 'CEB Solar Photovoltaic Scheme' aimed at Mauritian households has officially been launched. The Central Electricity Board (CEB) has been registering and processing applications for the past two days.
This assistance plan allows individuals to transition to solar energy. Households can install photovoltaic panels at their own expense, with a mandatory battery system to store energy for use in the evenings, lasting at least three hours.
To register, applicants must complete a form with the CEB and pay a processing fee of Rs 2,000. Once approved, installation can be carried out at the individual's expense. Following installation, a signed installation certificate from the installer must be submitted, along with a signed connection agreement, before the CEB can commission the system.
The maximum capacity is set at 10 kilowatts per household.
Consumers have two options: they can either consume their own electricity to reduce their bills or feed excess energy back into the CEB network. In this case, electricity is purchased at approximately Rs 4.20 per kilowatt/hour and credited monthly to the customer's account.
The CEB notes that customers who declared their photovoltaic installations since last November will be regularized under this new plan.
The organization is counting on this initiative to achieve 60% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2035.
