Increase in Postal Rates: Mauritius Post Justifies a Long-Awaited Revision Since 2021

Since April 8, 2026, postal rates have increased in Mauritius, a decision that has not gone unnoticed by users. Sending a letter weighing up to 20 grams is now charged at Rs 20, up from Rs 16 previously. The fee for registered letters has also increased from Rs 25 to Rs 35, a rise of Rs 10.

Other services are also affected by this revision. Express delivery fees are now Rs 50, while registration fees for international shipments reach Rs 100.

In an interview with a private radio station, Dr. Jayraj Ittoo, head of business development and projects, emphasized that these rate adjustments should have been implemented every three years. However, no increase had occurred since 2021.

According to him, rising costs, particularly salary increases and wage relativity, can no longer be absorbed by the company. This revision aims to ensure the financial viability of the institution while maintaining the quality of services offered to the public.
