Budget 2026-2027: Between Promises and Constraints, the Time for Choices

With just a few weeks remaining before the presentation of the 2026-2027 budget, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Navin Ramgoolam must balance the electoral commitments of the Alliance of Change with the reality of public finances. Public debt stands at 91% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the deficit is close to 10%, and special funds are depleted: the room for maneuver is very limited.
