Northern Division: 132 Cases of Domestic Violence in 4 Months
From January 1 to April 17, 2026, the Family Protection Brigade of the Northern Division police recorded 198 cases. These figures were provided by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam on Tuesday, April 21, during the PMQT in Parliament. Of these cases, 132 were related to domestic violence, 49 involved child abuse, and 17 concerned mistreatment of the elderly.
The head of government also explained that out of the 198 cases, 27 offenders have already faced legal consequences, either through fines or imprisonment. Twelve additional cases were resolved after counseling sessions. Investigations into the remaining cases are expected to be completed within 4 to 5 months.
