Incident at Beau-Bassin Prison: A Female Lead Prison Officer Assaulted

A violent incident occurred at the women's prison in Beau-Bassin on Tuesday, April 21. A Female Lead Prison Officer was assaulted while conducting a routine search in the "Ex-Mother's Care" unit.

The dissatisfaction among the inmates regarding this operation escalated. An inmate in pre-trial detention reportedly struck the officer in the face with a plastic chair.

The victim, injured on her forehead and nose, had to be transported to Candos Hospital for treatment.

An investigation has been launched.
