Beach Erosion: A Retreating Coastline and a Country Facing Its Choices
In Tamarin, the landscape is changing rapidly. Where a wide stretch of sand once existed, the sea has crept closer, gradually eroding the coastline. The retreat is visible, tangible, and almost brutal. "The kiosk is almost in the water, whereas two to three weeks ago, you had to walk about 50 meters from it to reach the beach. Today, only about three meters remain," says activist Percy Yip Tong.
