Crimes of causing a child to be sexually abused, as well as a case of indecent assault, have been reported against 57-year-old Percy Duval, a resident of Tamarin. He has been in police custody since Friday, April 10. Despite ongoing questioning from investigators regarding the accusations against him, he continues to exercise his right to remain silent.

In the meantime, more individuals are speaking out, and serious allegations are piling up against him. In fact, three new victims have filed complaints against him, stating that they were minors at the time of the abuse. Now adults, they have reported their cases to the Family Protection Brigade (BPF). These three women, who have retained the services of lawyers from Hawoldar Chambers, including Me Devina Deonarain-Joyram, claim they found the courage to come forward after reading about the case in the press.

On Wednesday, April 22, the three complainants were seen by a police doctor as part of the investigation. They also met with a psychologist. On the same day, during a reenactment of the events at Rivière-Noire, they pointed out the locations where Percy Duval had taken them, including his home, where he engaged in inappropriate acts against them. However, at that time, these three victims indicated that they did not realize the gravity of these actions. "We didn't understand what it was, but we knew it wasn't normal," they implied. The following day, they positively identified Percy Duval during an identification parade.

Three testimonies, One common method.

One of the victims, now 23 years old and working as an accountant, recounted the events that took place in 2017 when she was only 14. This mother explained that Percy Duval allegedly abused her at that time while she was friends with his son. She was watching television when, at one point, Percy Duval indicated that he was going to take a bath. But a few minutes later, he caught her in the house, pinned her against a wall, and assaulted her. Shocked, she remained silent.

The second complainant revealed that Percy Duval told her he wanted her when she was just 9 years old. She recounted that on one occasion, he showed her a pornographic video and asked if she wanted to do the same, before imposing sexual touching on her. He then told her not to say anything in exchange for candies, saying: "Don't tell anyone, I'll give you lots of candies."

The third victim, now 17, told investigators that she was also friends with Percy Duval's son and would often spend the night at his home with other friends. When he attempted to abuse her, she managed to push him away, being physically well-built, as she reported to the police.

Some parents of the victims have also been interviewed by the police as witnesses. Several indicated that during gatherings where families met in the evenings, Percy Duval would often leave the adult group to join the children. "He spent a lot of time with the kids during these evenings," they stated.
