Parallel Runway at Plaisance: Evaluation Report Expected Next Month
The preliminary report on the acquisition of land needed for the parallel runway project at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is expected to be finalized next month, ahead of potential negotiations with the affected landowners. This was stated by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam in a written response submitted to the National Assembly following a question from MMM MP Tony Apollon.
According to the Prime Minister, the project is currently at the stage of technical preparatory steps. He reminded that Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd had planned to appoint an expert to reassess the properties located in the relevant areas. “Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd was considering appointing a new licensed real estate appraiser and a land surveyor to review and update existing reports concerning 49 properties in Chat Gaon, along with the remaining 12 in the village of Solitude, for future negotiations.”
The services of the consultant initially selected in 2019 were ultimately retained to ensure continuity of the file. “On August 20, 2025, the services of the licensed real estate appraiser and land surveyor, initially selected in 2019, were requested by Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd for this exercise, for reasons of service continuity,” he explained.
A preliminary report was submitted on February 2, 2026. This report recommends a negotiation-based approach with the landowners, using reconstruction costs as the maximum reference value. At this stage, no formal land acquisitions have been finalized yet. The report is currently under review by Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd and will need to obtain the necessary approvals before negotiations with the affected landowners can commence.
