Attack on a Schoolgirl: Suspect Arrested This Sunday

The alleged assailant of a schoolgirl at the Victoria Urban Terminal on Tuesday has been arrested by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) this Sunday. Akash Dowlut, a 30-year-old homeless man from the southern part of the island, had been frequenting this area of the capital for some time.

With the assistance of security personnel at the Victoria Urban Terminal, the DCIU was able to apprehend him this Sunday.

In a statement made on Tuesday, a 15-year-old schoolgirl reported being approached and then threatened with a knife by the suspect, who robbed her of Rs 1,500. The victim stated that she was assaulted by the suspect before he fled the scene.

Thanks to footage from CCTV cameras, the suspect was identified before being arrested. He will appear in court on Monday.
