At Pereybère: Two Masons Found Dead in a Construction Villa

Two men, aged 31 and 32, were found dead on Saturday, April 25, in a villa under construction in Pereybère. The Grand-Baie police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths. Investigators are currently considering the possibility of an overdose.

An investigation was opened by the Grand-Baie police following the discovery of the lifeless bodies of the two masons, aged 31 and 32, on Saturday, April 25. The men had been working on the construction site and had also been living there for some time. At this point in the investigation, the police are leaning towards the theory of a drug overdose.

The grim discovery was made on Saturday morning by the property owner, a lawyer, who went to the site after noticing the unusual absence of the workers from the surveillance camera footage and failing to reach them by phone.

Upon the police's arrival, the two lifeless bodies were found in the bathroom, one lying on top of the other, with two syringes nearby. A doctor from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (Samu), dispatched to the scene, confirmed the deaths. Syringes and a metal box found in the villa were sealed for analysis.

According to the owner, he did not personally know the victims and only dealt with their employer, a construction contractor. He specified that the two masons were assigned to construction work, including a swimming pool, and were temporarily residing on-site after their working hours.

The autopsies, conducted the same day by the head of the forensic department, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, concluded that the deaths were due to pulmonary edema. The two victims were from Petite-Rivière and Richelieu.

On Saturday, the bodies were released to the relatives after the forensic examinations. Family members of the deceased have also been interviewed by the police as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the exact circumstances of these deaths.
