[In Pictures] At the FCC: Auction of Seized Vehicles
The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) is organizing a public auction of seized assets. The auction will take place at its headquarters in Réduit, starting from Monday, April 27, until Thursday, April 30, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. A total of nearly 51 cars, about ten motorcycles, boats, and construction machinery will be sold to the highest bidder.
On Sunday, April 26, the FCC opened the doors of its compound to the public. This visit aimed to allow interested individuals to view the seized assets in their current condition before the auction. The process operates on an "as is, where is" basis, meaning the items are offered in their current state and location, with no opportunity for testing.
This approach enables potential buyers to assess the condition of the assets before participating in the auction. "We have appointed an independent auctioneer to conduct this sale, along with an independent appraiser tasked with setting a minimum value for each asset. This will allow the public to make their bids. The highest bidder will be selected," explains Keshav Nunkoo, an officer at the FCC.
The vehicle auctions will take place on Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28, from 10 AM to 1 PM. Deliveries will then begin and continue until Wednesday, April 29, for the successful bidders. Thursday, April 30, will be dedicated to other assets, including motorcycles, trucks, boats, and construction machinery.
Keshav Nunkoo states that the commission's investigations have shown that these assets were funded by "dirty money" or were used to commit crimes. He reminds that the FCC is the only body authorized to conduct such sales. This marks the first public opening, with the possibility of repeating the exercise in the future.
