Parliamentary Questions: Debate on Heavy Fuel Oil Import Subsidies by CEB
The subsidies paid by the Central Electricity Board (CEB) for the import of heavy fuel oil were the focus of discussions on Tuesday, April 28, at the National Assembly. Minister of Commerce, Michael Sik Yuen, stated that this rate can reach up to $99, which is over 4,500 rupees per metric ton.
Opposition leader, Joe Lesjongard, mentioned an additional cost of about $18 during his Private Notice Question (PNQ). He questioned whether there would be an adjustment to the rate to prevent an increase in electricity prices.
In response, the Minister of Commerce noted that discussions are ongoing but did not make any immediate commitments. When asked about a possible revision of the fuel pricing structure, Michael Sik Yuen indicated that any decision would be made "at the appropriate time."
