Reaz Chuttoo: "Never Again Will Workers Trust Subron"

On the occasion of Labor Day, Reaz Chuttoo, president of the Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP), participated in a march in the streets of Rose-Hill this morning.

He was highly critical of the Minister of Social Security, Ashok Subron. "Never again will workers trust Subron because he is a traitor," he told the press.

He also targeted the minister's positions: "Beware of false prophets, Ashok Subron said yesterday that we need to mobilize against capitalists to achieve a 40-hour work week... But he didn't need to mobilize against capitalists when the pension age was raised to 65... On the contrary, he himself signed the law..."

According to the union leader, the current economic situation calls for collective mobilization.

He pointed out several government measures: the wage freeze maintained for four years, the introduction of a "labour contractor" system allowing the "leasing" of foreign workers to multiple employers, six billion rupees in tax breaks granted to capitalists, and the reform of old-age pensions, which he claims only generates 1.8 billion rupees.

"We have a government that is applying ultra-liberal policies," he stated.

"We are entering a class struggle, where the poor will become extremely poor and the middle class will be impoverished; therefore, we need mobilization," emphasized Reaz Chuttoo.
