[Labor Day] Georgy Kenny, General Vicar: "Every Worker Must Be Respected and Recognized"
On the occasion of the Labor Day Mass celebrated on May 1st at Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Secours, General Vicar P. Georgy Kenny made a call for the dignity of workers, social solidarity, and a more humane work environment.
In his homily, he reminded attendees that work is not just a means of livelihood, but also a factor for personal fulfillment, responsibility, and contribution to the common good.
Addressing the current surge in living costs, he highlighted the difficulties many families face in making ends meet and emphasized the need for increased solidarity, particularly from decision-makers.
The General Vicar also discussed the transformations in the labor market, marked by artificial intelligence, globalization, growing precariousness, and isolation associated with new forms of employment, such as telecommuting.
He further mentioned the presence of about 60,000 migrant workers in Mauritius, calling for respect and recognition of their contributions to the country's economy. The General Vicar urged for the creation of a fairer and more brotherly society, where every worker is respected and acknowledged.
