Leptospirosis: Fifth Death Recorded in Mauritius
Mauritius has reported a fifth death linked to leptospirosis. The victim is a man in his sixties, a gardener by profession, residing in Montagne-Blanche. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of SAJ Hospital in Flacq and had a history of heart problems.
The information was confirmed by Dr. Fazil Khodabocus, the interim director of health services, during an interview with Radio Plus.
Currently, the country has 20 active cases. Dr. Khodabocus urges the public to take necessary precautions.
Leptospirosis is transmitted through the urine of infected rats, particularly during contact in rainy conditions, such as in fields.
In case of fever, joint pain, sore throat, or fatigue, it is recommended to consult a health center without delay. Patients are encouraged to report any potential contact with rats and to specify their professional activities to aid in diagnosis and management.
