Assault on Neurologist Ramesh Modun Solved: Hans Kissoon and Mevin Joson Confess

Hans Kissoon, 34, and his alleged accomplice Mevin Joson, 33, have confessed in the investigation of the assault on neurologist Ramesh Modun, 77, in Coromandel on April 18. During questioning on Monday, April 27, by CID officers from Coromandel, Hans Kissoon admitted his involvement. "We were the ones who attacked the doctor," he stated. He explained that the duo had premeditated their act by gaining the physician's trust under false pretenses, claiming a relative was allegedly admitted to the clinic.

According to the information given to the CID investigators, the suspects were familiar with the Chapman Hill area, where the victim resides. On the day of the incident, around 9:30 AM, taking advantage of a quiet moment and knowing the doctor was alone, they made their move. Under the pretext of asking for water, they managed to enter the house. Once inside, they seized a knife from the kitchen to threaten the septuagenarian. He was tied up with a sheet while the assailants took cash, including foreign currency, and bottles of whiskey. Part of the loot was resold, while the rest was consumed.

During the week, the two suspects participated in a reenactment of the crime at the scene, explaining how the attack unfolded. The investigation also traced the use of a rental vehicle booked by a relative of Mevin Joson. Unbeknownst to her, he took the keys on the evening of April 17 to commit the crime. The vehicle was abandoned the next day in the Camp Levieux area.

Arrested on April 23 and 27 by the CID of Brisée-Verdière in connection with another violent theft case in an eastern village, the two suspects were later transferred to the CID of Coromandel. They remain in custody.
