Champ de Mars: Second Day Marked by Three Suspensions

On Saturday, May 2nd, the second day of racing at Champ de Mars was filled with surprises, numerous incidents on the track, and disciplinary actions, according to the interim report released by the Board of Stipendiary Stewards.

Eight races were on the agenda, with victories going to Diamond Days, The Centurion, Warbird, Superior Force, Crescent, Xavion, Zoomie, and Cider House Rules. However, several favorites disappointed, notably Daring Dash, who finished fourth in the seventh race, and Canford Club, who came in only fifth in the final event.

Three horses were suspended for 30 days after bleeding during the race: Krim, Charlie Squadron, and Ninety Nine Heros. The report also highlighted several veterinary issues. Superior Force suffered an injury to its hind leg, Zoomie was lame, Gang Leader showed discomfort in its front leg, while Captain Mike and Ninety Nine Heros exhibited signs of coughing after their races.

On the disciplinary front, apprentice Y. Appou received a warning, while jockey Da Silva was severely reprimanded following an incident in the fifth race. An inquiry regarding him has been postponed to allow for an interpreter to be present.

The stewards also confirmed that blood samples were taken before the races, along with urine and blood tests on all winners. All jockeys were subjected to a breathalyzer test.

Several racing incidents, including horses being interfered with, changes in trajectory, and mounts running wide, also marked this eventful day at Champ de Mars.
