Theft of Toyota Aqua and Vitz Mirrors in Parking Lots

On April 10, at the Mahogany shopping center in Beau-Plan, a foreign national filed a complaint at the Pamplemousses police station for the theft of a mirror from his car, estimating the loss at Rs 8,000.

Then, in the parking lot of the Riche-Terre shopping center, other car owners experienced similar thefts. A mirror from a Toyota Vitz was stolen on April 11. On April 18, another mirror from a different Toyota Vitz was taken. Additionally, a mirror from another car parked in the yard of a private firm was also stolen.

These mirror thefts were reported to the Terre-Rouge and Pamplemousses police stations.

The Northern Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit conducted a thorough investigation, and a review of the surveillance footage on April 18 revealed a man stealing the mirror from a Toyota Aqua. He fled in another vehicle.

The Pamplemousses criminal police arrested two family members. During their interrogation, they implicated Yaseer Kardaree. He confessed to the criminal investigation department (CID) of the North regarding his involvement in the thefts of car mirrors in the North.

On Monday, April 20, he faced charges of theft in the Pamplemousses court and was fined Rs 20,000.

He was later arrested by the Grand-Baie CID for a similar theft at La Croisette. For this theft, he was sentenced to prison by the Pamplemousses court.

Two associates of the suspect were also apprehended and questioned in connection with this investigation.
