Death of Jeff Axel Perrine at Beau-Bassin Prison: "I was waiting like any mother to celebrate Mother's Day with my son," his mother confides
Marie Joycelyne Perrine filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission this afternoon, accompanied by her lawyers. She seeks clarity regarding the death of her son, Jeff Axel Perrine, a 27-year-old inmate found dead on Friday at Beau-Bassin prison.
The young man, originally from Résidence Rose, Notre-Dame, was discovered sitting on his bed in his cell.
His mother reported receiving a call from the authorities on the morning of May 1 to inform her of his death. She also stated that two people confirmed to her that her son had woken up that morning and had breakfast before experiencing a health crisis.
However, according to her, the autopsy report mentions that Jeff Axel Perrine died around 7 PM on April 30.
"I don’t know how someone who is dead can have a funeral," she said.
Marie Joycelyne Perrine also noted that she observed bruises on her son's body during the identification process.
The mother expresses her desire to know the truth about the circumstances of his death. She had expected to see her son again, especially since he was due to be released on May 24. "I was waiting like any mother to celebrate Mother's Day alone with my son," she said.
Jeff Axel Perrine was set to be released on May 24 after serving a sentence for theft. The autopsy, conducted by Dr. Shaila Prasad-Jankee, concluded that he suffered from brain and pulmonary edema and ruled out any notion of foul play. The family disputes this version.
