Narendra Modi Claims to Have Achieved a 'Record Victory' in the Calcutta Region Elections
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on social media on Monday that his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has achieved a 'record victory' in the local elections in West Bengal, a region that has eluded his control until now.
Over 36 million voters - out of a population of nearly 100 million - were called to elect their 294 representatives in West Bengal, including the local executive leader, Mamata Banerjee, whose party, the All India Trinamool Congress, has been in power since 2011.
