Arianne Navarre-Marie Becomes the First Woman Deputy Prime Minister
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Arianne Navarre-Marie took the oath of office as Deputy Prime Minister at the State House in Réduit, making her the first woman to hold this high position. A prominent figure in the Mauritian Militant Movement, she has built her reputation through social engagement and trade unionism.
Her political career began at the young age of 21 in 1982, during the historic 60-0 victory with the MMM-PSM coalition. Following another 60-0 victory in 2024 as part of the Alliance for Change, she was appointed Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare. Her flagship program for 2030 focuses on gender equality, combating violence against women, and promoting family welfare, themes she advocates with the aim of reducing inequalities, decreasing instances of violence, and strengthening social fabric.
