An administrative investigation has been launched following the alleged discovery of moldy bread in meals served to residents of Shelter Cap l’Espoir, a facility managed by the National Children’s Council (NCC). The incident reportedly occurred last Tuesday.
In a statement issued on May 7, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare confirmed that immediate measures were taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected children. At this point, no cases of illness, contamination, or food allergies have been reported.
The ministry stated that the person responsible for the kitchen has been replaced with immediate effect to ensure continuity of service. The matter has also been referred to the police and the Rivière-du-Rempart health office for investigation and necessary actions.
According to the authorities, additional measures have already been implemented at the Shelter to enhance quality control, hygiene, and food safety procedures. The ministry emphasizes that the protection and well-being of children remain a priority, and no lapses that compromise their safety will be tolerated.
