- Airfare starting from Rs 20,000.
Air travel between Spain and Mauritius is set to regain momentum this month. Iberojet, a Spanish airline, will resume its weekly flights between Madrid and Mauritius starting Sunday, June 22, with an expected arrival in Mauritius on Monday, June 23, at 7:40 AM. The aircraft will depart the same day at 10:40 AM heading back to Madrid, as confirmed by Umarfarooq Omarjee, director of Omarjee Aviation, Iberojet's partner.
These flights will operate every Monday from Mauritius, using a state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900, which was delivered to the airline just before its inaugural flight in 2023. The service will be operational for five months, until the first week of October, covering the peak tourist season of the European summer. "This will help attract travelers during the major school holidays in Europe," explains Umarfarooq Omarjee. However, the revival of this route is not solely aimed at Spanish tourists; it also targets Portuguese travelers, facilitated by transfers through Lisbon-Madrid. "The flight will take passengers from Spain, of course, but also from Portugal who will transit through Madrid," our contact clarifies.
According to him, Iberojet's return is part of a continuity strategy after a successful initial attempt in 2024. "Last year, Iberojet launched the Madrid-Mauritius route. This airline is part of a Spanish group that owns several travel agencies in Spain and Portugal," he adds. This relaunch contributes to reconnecting the two countries, a strategic move to boost tourism and commercial exchanges.
In terms of capacity, the flight can accommodate about 400 passengers, split between standard economy class and an enhanced version called 'Turista Plus', offering more space, better menus, and additional services. "It's equivalent to 'comfort economy' with a more pleasant cabin," details the director.
Ticket: Starting at Rs 20,000 without luggage
As for fares, they are designed to be competitive. "Round-trip tickets are available starting at 400 euros, which is approximately Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for advance purchases," states Umarfarooq Omarjee. It is important to note that this base price does not include luggage. A complete ticket, including luggage, will be around Rs 35,000, with prices varying according to the season and chosen class. "With this direct 10-hour flight between Mauritius and Spain, Iberojet positions itself as an attractive option for travelers seeking comfort and convenience," asserts the director.
