Molasses: A Maximum Selling Price Until 2027
The government aims to better regulate the molasses market. In a meeting on Friday, the Council of Ministers approved the promulgation of the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority (Sale Price of Molasses) Regulations 2026, which will establish a maximum selling price for molasses for the 2025, 2026, and 2027 harvests.
This new regulation, under the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries, also includes an annual price adjustment based on changes in the Consumer Price Index.
Authorities clarify that the price can be reviewed if necessary, upon recommendation from the Control and Arbitration Committee and after approval from the board of the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority as well as the relevant ministry.
