PQ's: Road Deaths: 25% Decrease in April 2026

The Minister of Land Transport, Osman Mahomed, responded to a question from MP Kevin Lukeeram regarding fatal accidents in the South. Between January 2023 and May 7, 2026, there were 74 fatal accidents resulting in the deaths of 78 individuals. The main causes identified are speeding and dangerous or reckless driving. Among the measures implemented, the Penalty Point System, which has been operational since January 31, 2026, has led to a 25% reduction in road fatalities in April.
