Society: Stray Animals: A Crisis That is Getting Worse

In the Netherlands, stray dogs are now almost non-existent. This outcome is the result of several decades of public policies that combine strict legislation, extensive sterilization campaigns, mandatory animal registration, taxation of pet owners, and heavy penalties for abandonment. In Mauritius, the situation is quite different. The increasing presence of stray dogs and cats continues to raise concerns among citizens and organizations.
