[Murder of Gino Ronnie Bodha] Two Suspects Arrested, Strangulation Confirmed
The investigation into the death of Gino Ronnie Bodha, 44, son of former minister and leader of the Mauritian Assembly, Nando Bodha, has progressed rapidly this Friday. Two men have been taken into custody, and the autopsy has determined the cause of death.
Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, who performed the autopsy in the evening, concluded that Gino Ronnie Bodha died by strangulation. One of the two arrested suspects, Jean Olivier Rose, 21, residing in Grand-Gaube, reportedly confessed to the investigators, admitting to strangling the victim. The second suspect, Louis Ismaël Larhubarbe, also 21 and from the same neighborhood, has also been taken into custody. Both were brought before the Weekend Court in Port-Louis on Saturday and have been remanded in custody.
According to initial findings by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), the suspects allegedly entered the victim's home in Calodyne in the north of the island, posing as plumbers. A confrontation then escalated fatally. Gino Ronnie Bodha's body was subsequently transported by the suspects to La Nicolière, where it was found at the bottom of a ravine. One of the two men was also intercepted driving the victim's vehicle.
It was around 2 PM on Friday that Gino Ronnie Bodha's relatives learned the news. The exact motive for the crime has not yet been officially established by the authorities.
Former minister Nando Bodha, devastated by the loss of his son, expressed his sorrow in a few words: "It is very hard to lose a child. He was a very gentle person and a great artist."
The investigation is ongoing.
