Cinema: Canal+ Will No Longer Work with the 600 Signatories of an Anti-Bolloré Statement
After the statement against Bolloré, Canal+ has responded. The Chairman of the group, Maxime Saada, announced on Sunday, May 17, in Cannes, that he no longer wishes for his group, the leading financier of French cinema, to continue working with industry professionals who signed a petition against its main shareholder.
"I perceived this petition as an injustice towards the Canal teams who strive to defend the independence of Canal+, and in all the diversity of its choices. Consequently, I will no longer work with those who signed this petition," Maxime Saada declared during a speech at the Cannes Film Festival.
Published on Monday at the start of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, the petition, signed by notable figures such as Juliette Binoche and Swann Arlaud, condemns "the growing influence of the far-right" in cinema through the conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, who is already facing a backlash in publishing led by around 200 authors published by Grasset.
