COVID Vaccines: Final Payment of Over $593,000 for Undelivered Doses

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will make a final payment of $593,021.89 related to outstanding debts concerning Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines to the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT). This amount pertains to commitments made by the previous government, which signed a Commitment Undertaking and a Participation Agreement in May 2021 for the vaccine acquisition.

Despite the vaccines ultimately not being delivered, the ministry was still obligated to fulfill the entire payment amount as per the agreements reached. The Cabinet approved the settlement of this final payment during its meeting on Friday, May 15.
