CEB: Total Debt of Rs 7.3 Billion

Energy Minister Patrick Assirvaden accused the former government of siphoning off Rs 3.6 billion from the Central Electricity Board (CEB) accounts in just a few weeks, thereby preventing the promised 15% reduction in electricity tariffs before the elections. In response to MP Nitish Beejan's inquiry about the CEB's bank overdraft, which amounted to Rs 2.6 billion as of April 30, 2026, the minister attributed this situation to the former Finance Minister and the previous administration.
