Higher Education: Mauritius Highlights Its Ambition on the International Stage

Mauritius reaffirmed its ambitions in the field of higher education during several recent international meetings held in London and Vancouver. The Cabinet, convened on June 5, acknowledged the participation of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Research at the 22nd Education World Forum, as well as a series of bilateral meetings focused on higher education. Organized in London, the forum's theme was "Educating for a Shared Future: Peace, Planet, Purpose, and Pathways." The event brought together government officials, decision-makers, and educational stakeholders from various countries.

At this meeting, the minister spoke as a keynote speaker in a session dedicated to leveraging research and innovation for global impact. He also participated in a technical workshop where he presented the outcomes resulting from the implementation of the agreement signed in 2025 between the UK's Quality Assurance Agency and Mauritius's Higher Education Commission. The minister also took part in the Dukes Education Forum, where he delivered a keynote address highlighting the government's ambition to position Mauritius as Africa's leading destination for education investment.

In Vancouver, he engaged in several discussions with sector stakeholders. Conversations with the Commonwealth of Learning focused on open educational resources and knowledge-sharing ecosystems. A meeting also took place with Vancouver Aviation College regarding training opportunities in aviation and drone technology. These various meetings promoted Mauritian expertise in higher education while exploring new avenues for international collaboration in sectors that add significant value to skill development.
