Danish footballer Christian Eriksen conscious after collapsing on the field
Former Tottenham and Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in Odense, Denmark's third-largest city. According to initial reports, he remained conscious, and the match was halted.
Christian Eriksen was reported to be conscious after collapsing again during a game with the Danish national team, the country's football federation stated on Sunday.
Television footage showed the 34-year-old player holding his chest with both hands in the 65th minute of the international friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine, held at Nature Energy Park in Odense.
Shortly after, Eriksen was seen lying on the grass as players gathered around him.
The match was subsequently stopped.
"Christian Eriksen is conscious and, given the circumstances, he is doing well; the pacemaker reacted as it should. He briefly lost consciousness but quickly regained awareness, and we were able to make contact with him almost immediately... he asked me to send his regards to all the players and let them know he's fine," the federation stated in a message posted on X.
Eriksen had previously suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening group match against Finland at Euro 2021 in Copenhagen, where he received extensive medical attention on the field before regaining consciousness.
