[GRSEYC-Accenture Practical AI Workshop] Around Forty Young People Introduced to Artificial Intelligence
On Friday, May 15, 2026, forty young individuals aged between 18 and 35 from all over Mauritius attended the workshop titled "Empowering Youth with Practical AI Tools," organized by the Grand River South East Youth Circle (GRSEYC) in close collaboration with Accenture at Accenture's offices in Ebène Cybercity.
This initiative reflects a shared commitment to reinvent the future with Accenture by empowering youth to embrace digital inclusion, innovation, and skills tailored to tomorrow's challenges. Students, young professionals, and unemployed or underemployed youth from diverse backgrounds gathered to explore the practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI), its responsible use, and emerging career opportunities. The workshop attracted participants from 34 towns and villages across Mauritius, highlighting the national interest and accessibility of the event. With 66% of participants aged 18 to 25 and a nearly balanced gender representation, the event showcased its inclusive nature and broad appeal. Most attendees identified as beginner or intermediate users of AI tools, underscoring the demand for practical and hands-on training.
Accenture professionals guided participants through interactive sessions on the evolution of AI, generative AI, ethical use, prompt engineering, and applications in careers and businesses. A highlight of the event was the group exercise, where teams utilized AI tools to reinvent daily tasks, such as generating resumes, designing websites, creating presentations, developing interactive games, producing creative content, and exploring automation. This exercise demonstrated how AI can reinvent productivity, creativity, and communication while fostering teamwork, adaptability, and critical thinking. Facilitators emphasized both the opportunities and limitations of AI, stressing the importance of human oversight, ethical use, and effective prompt formulation.
Chandraveer Lutchmun, president of GRSEYC, stated: "AI is already shaping how we work, study, create, communicate, and even think. It is crucial for young people to understand not only how to use AI but also how to use it responsibly, ethically, and effectively."
This collaboration also embodies Accenture's core values—Creating value for clients, A global network, Respect for the individual, The best talent, Integrity, and Responsible management—which shape the culture and define the character of the company. These values guided the design and implementation of the workshop, ensuring that participants benefited not only from technical learning but also from a culture of respect, collaboration, and integrity.
In line with these values, Accenture continues to deliver 360° value in experience, finance, sustainability, inclusion and diversity, clients, and talent. The workshop demonstrated how such initiatives can impact beyond professional training, fostering inclusion, valuing diverse talent, and creating sustainable opportunities for communities.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the value of hands-on learning, interaction with industry professionals, and concrete demonstrations of AI applications relevant to both academic and professional settings. The "Empowering Youth with Practical AI Tools" initiative is envisioned as an expanding annual collaboration between the Grand River South East Youth Circle and Accenture, reinforcing a shared mission to reinvent the future and enhance the digital capacity-building efforts of youth across Mauritius.
