Brazilian Woman Convicted of Stalking BTS’s Jungkook Faces Deportation from South Korea
A Brazilian woman who was handed a suspended prison sentence for stalking Jungkook, a member of the K-pop group BTS, now faces possible deportation from South Korea. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, began following and harassing the singer last December. She repeatedly went to his home, attempting to hand over letters and photographs, claiming she was acting 'out of love' for the 28-year-old artist. A district court in Seoul sentenced her to one year in prison, suspended for two years. She is also expected to be deported unless she can get the decision overturned on appeal. According to court documents, the woman first showed up at Jungkook’s residence on December 7. She loitered around the property, threw objects over the wall, and slipped letters through gaps in the door. A few days later, she returned and rang the doorbell 133 times. The court said this demonstrated 'an extreme level of obsession.' On December 13, she was arrested after following a delivery driver to sneak into the property through a side entrance. She was released the next day with a ban on approaching the home, but she ignored the authorities’ instructions. Her visits continued over the following weeks, prompting police to issue an emergency order banning her from coming within 100 meters of the residence. Despite this measure, she kept showing up. Police finally sent her case to prosecutors in February after further violations. In total, the woman visited the property 22 times, according to the court. During sentencing, the judge said he had taken into account several mitigating circumstances, noting that the risk of reoffending was 'not significant.' Last June, another woman, a Chinese national in her 30s, was arrested in Seoul while trying to break into Jungkook’s home just hours after he finished his military service.
