[Plaine-Verte] Over Rs 2.8 Million Seized in ADSU Raid, Two Arrested
A major cash sum believed to be linked to drug trafficking, along with several illegal substances and prohibited equipment, was seized during an operation by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) in Plaine-Verte on Thursday, June 19.
Acting on intelligence, ADSU officers conducted a search at a house on Dioree Street, Plaine-Verte, occupied by a 42-year-old company director and his 20-year-old nephew, a manager by profession.
During the search of the younger suspect's bedroom, police discovered a bag containing 0.7 grams of suspected cannabis, three pieces of paper with traces of cannabis resin, a bag with traces of cocaine, and three electronic devices containing a liquid suspected to be cannabis oil. Seven additional electronic devices with traces of the same liquid were also seized.
Investigators also confiscated Rs 2,043,625, along with 10 euros, 1,000 South African rands, 390 Chinese yuan, and 80 Thai baht. This money is suspected to be linked to drug trafficking activities.
The search of the 42-year-old's bedroom also uncovered a black electronic flashlight marked "Police" capable of delivering electric shocks, a functioning taser with three cartridges, two Federal Streamer aerosol canisters, and a CS gas spray. Police also found Rs 824,850, 2,900 US dollars, and 6,900 euros, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.
Both suspects have been arrested and are in custody. The ADSU investigation continues to determine the origin of the seized funds and to establish possible links to a drug trafficking network.
