Sugar Tax: Goodbye to Low Prices?

As of June 6, 2025, the excise tax on the sugar content of sweet products has been doubled, increasing from 6 cents to 12 cents per gram of sugar. This measure aims to discourage excessive sugar consumption and promote healthier eating habits as part of a public health policy focused on prevention. In line with this, starting October 1, 2025, the excise tax on sweet products will also be applied to chocolates and sugary snacks.
