Middle East Tensions: Ramgoolam Calls for an Immediate Ceasefire

Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam has called for an immediate ceasefire among the parties involved in the Middle East conflict this Monday, during a statement at the National Assembly.

The head of government also urged the international community to take all necessary measures to give diplomacy a chance.

The war was triggered on June 13 by a massive airstrike from Israel on Iran, targeting strategic Iranian sites with the stated goal of preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iran, for its part, denies any intention to develop nuclear weapons and defends its right to pursue a civilian nuclear program.

On Monday, Israel claimed to be conducting strikes of "unprecedented" power against several centers and symbols of power in Tehran, including the Evin prison located in northern Tehran.
