National Human Rights Commission: Hearings of the Melrose Prison Officials to Start on July 29
The National Preventive Mechanism Division (NPMD) of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has secured and reviewed 50% of the CCTV footage related to the incidents that occurred on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Melrose Prison.
The review will continue tomorrow, Saturday, July 26. All footage will be sealed.
As of this afternoon, approximately thirty inmates have filed their complaints. They have all been interviewed by the NPMD investigation team.
As a reminder, the NPMD initiated its investigations on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Starting Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the National Human Rights Commission will begin hearings with the staff and officials of Melrose Prison, based on the reviewed videos and the statements of the inmates.
The NHRC will provide regular updates regarding this investigation, which will culminate in a report and recommendations for the authorities.
