Obituary: Raymond Marrier d’Unienville, the Lawyer-Historian Who Shaped the Bar and Chronicled Isle de France

The bar and the Mauritian intelligentsia are in mourning. Raymond Marrier d’Unienville, a King’s Counsel, a prominent figure in the courtroom, and an esteemed historian, passed away at the age of 93. The Mauritius Bar Association announced his death on Sunday, August 17, and his funeral was held yesterday, Monday, August 18, at 2 PM at the Notre-Dame du Bon Secours church in Trou-d’Eau-Douce. The island has lost an exceptional servant, whose entire life was dedicated to the pursuit of justice and the chronicling of its history.
