Demolition of an Old MSAW Building in Port-Louis

An old building of the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW), formerly known as MSPCA, located on Route des Pamplemousses in Port-Louis, which has become a hideout for drug users over the past few years, was demolished this Monday as part of a joint operation led by the MPs of constituency no.3 (Port-Louis Maritime/Port-Louis Est) – Shakeel Mohamed, Aadil Ameer Meea, and Eshan Juman.
This demolition followed numerous complaints from local residents worried about their safety and fed up with the deteriorating condition of the building. The action aims to make the area safer, cleaner, and more accessible, while laying the groundwork for an urban redevelopment project that, according to the parliamentarians, will "improve the lives of residents and restore the area to its true purpose."
The three elected officials indicated that they will propose new community projects in the coming days to enhance the location, in consultation with residents and relevant authorities.
"It was urgent to act. This building had become a source of insecurity and a danger to residents. Our goal is to clean up the neighborhood and provide concrete and sustainable solutions," they stated on site.
Shakeel Mohamed, Aadil Ameer Meea, and Eshan Juman had previously visited Paul and Virginie Street and Pagoda, also in constituency no.3, accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Osman Mahomed. This visit aimed to address residents' complaints regarding traffic, road safety, and congestion. Discussions were held on-site to identify suitable solutions and ensure timely follow-up.
